My new motherboard has a 'feature' which was basically a little jumper which was a keyboard power saving jumper - when you keylock the keyboard it powers down everything non-essential on the motherbpard - which means just about everything except the CPU fan... Sounds good, right?
Well, its enabled by default, and you'll never guess what this means to the poor unsuspecting soul who installs it...

Unfortunately, this particular feature only works if you have a 7.5mAmp power supply. My power supply is only 5.5mAmps.
"So what?" I hear you asking? Well, what it means is that everything except the CPU fan powers down by default when you PLUG THE KEYBOARD IN, and doesn't give you any error beeps to tell you what its doing!

So I had to hunt around through an Engrish manual to find where it made an obscure reference to it, finally work out that it was the problem (of course after going through every other possiblity and suspecting that maybe the motherboard was inoperaterative at best) - I dug around to actually change the position of this jumper which was of course in the stupidest possible place on the entire board (i.e. impossible to even touch; "Big human no change small jumper!").

Turned it on, and suddenly, Not only does my keyboard have power, but everything else as well. Hooray. If I get my hands on the person who decided to set that to default, I SWEAR I will kill them for wasting almost an hour of my time.

Consequently I haven't slept much last night, which is going to make clubbing tonight all the more interesting. I'm still scared to take any more Robitussin. :)
