Which is surprisingly accurate. My parents otherwise provide me with much amusement simply by being around and travelling, and not having any idea what they're doing from day-to-day. Much like me really.
Before she left my mother stuck a piece of paper to the fridge - a quote:
"There are no passengers on planet earth. Everybody's crew." -- Marshall Mcluhan.
Then she appended to it:
"Much like this house really."
Which sort of sums things up to a tee. :)
I'm finding that I'm paying less attention to what people say. I just watch what they do. Narrative is linear, but action has breadth and depth as well as height and is solid.
Every day I am more convinced that the chief waste of life lies in love we have not given, powers we have not used, selfish prudence that will risk nothing so which, shirking pain, misses happiness as well.
So what to do?
Well perhaps something like this:
Do not keep your love and tenderness sealed up until your friends are dead. Fill their lives with sweetness, speak cheering words while their ears can hear, and while their hearts can be thrilled and made happier.
To die could be an awfully big adventure. :)
