Watch out, Chell's got a theory again!
Oct. 5th, 2009 03:43 amI finally get Dean Kamen's philosophy about the segway! Its so that people who are 81, cannot drive anymore, have never used rollerblades, skateboards, and haven't ridden a bicycle in over 50 years, can still get to the store, and they can CARRY lots of things! Some police officers are on their beats carrying 70 pounds of electronics (tasers, PDAs with printers for tickets, guns, handcuffs, etc. etc.) guff on segways, but this is about letting people of advancing age still occupy the precious little public space left in our cities devoted to personal transport; the sidewalk!
If our generation plans on living until we're 90 and still being mobile physically as well as intellectually agile, we're going to have to accept the use of technologies as readily as we accept that 300mg of aspirin per day can protect your brain from plaque accumulation.
