So anyway, after last night finally setting up the rest of whats needed to run a fully-qualified domain on the machine which sits in my upstairs cupboard, and having this run for about 12 hours, I decided that it was probably an opportune time to switch my account with Telstra over to a business account so that I'm actually allowed to do such things.
While I'm at it I might pay the extra money and get a decent bandwidth limit. Not that I'd actually use it. On my own without a goal (like downloading every single anime series ever) I struggle to use 500meg a month. Amazing what text compression will do, really.
Last night I got over my fear of getting the poi behind my head while they're spinning. To an extent. Sort of. This means that I only hit myself 4 times in the evening (thats on my head, I managed to hit myself quite soundly innumerable times in other body areas).
This means that I can do quite a few more tricks, plus I have an idea, which is very good if you've got time to sit back for 5 minutes and think about the possibilities of it actually working.
I have too many glow-balls to juggle with them all. The original intention was to get an extra 3 for someone who wanted them, but who wound up not wanting them (much to my delight, really). So! With these extra balls... they weigh in at about 100 grams, and my glow-poi weigh about 150 grams each (this was before I took the weights out, and including string/handles), this similarity will mean that since I already think the poi are too heavy... it should be possible to modify the glow-balls into glow poi.
The advantage of this will be twofold! One, the glow-balls are soft and hacky-sack like, which means when I hit myself in the head with them they won't cause large swellings which take up to 16 hours to go down, and I won't have to wear my cool blue furry hat while I twirl in order to absorb some of the shock of braining myself on the noggin.
Two! Becasue they have lights in them, I will be able to use them at night, and they will still look impressive and be easy to track movement-wise.
They will also be rather unique, and I should be able to attach some sort of white trailing string so that they will be useful during the day also. I will have to find some way of attaching it by crochet.
I have some vague idea of how to go about this, but I need to obtain some of the small gimbal swivels used for attaching strings to poi, I know that Tanele has some or at least knows how to get them, so I should probably ask now, shouldn't I?
In other news, more art. :)
